Welcome to Filfla Chilli Co.
I have always been driven by curiosity, exploring fields as varied as agriculture, literature, languages, martial arts, photography, motion design, and marketing. That same curiosity extended to the kitchen, where me and my wife Michèle—equally adventurous in taste—spent years experimenting with various flavours, cuisines and chutneys purely for enjoyment.
During the first lockdown, encouragement from friends and family pushed me to take my passion more seriously and this led to the creation of Filfla Chilli Co., named after the Maltese islet Filfla, where legend has it that it's name originates from the Arabic word felfel, meaning pepper.
The idea behind Filfla Chilli Co. is that each product has a generally milder heat to it, where one could enjoy both the spiciness as well as the various flavours. This is what led to the development of a possibly more balanced, flavour-driven take on harissa, which became the foundation for Filfli.
Along with Filfli, each product that we produce is influenced by Malta’s culinary cuisine, traditions, history and culture, with ingredients ranging from sundried tomatoes, olives, oranges, olive oil, rosemary and honey.
Over the years we have won a number of various prestigious awards, including first place in the chutney division of the European Hot Sauce Awards with Filfli, third place in the freestyle division of the European Hot Sauce Awards with Basli, third place in the chilli paste division of the European Hot Sauce Awards with Buwgi, best plant based products of the year 2025 in the Malta Food Management Industry Awards, and runner-up with Filfli in the Gieh l-Artiggjanat Awards.

We are now also available in a number of different countries overseas, and we were also invited to be a part of the pantry in Masterchef Malta 2025.
